Minor cutting edge force contribution in wood bandsawing

چکیده

Abstract As the sawmill industry is moving towards thinner bandsaws for higher yields, it important to study cutting force in more detail. The can be split into two zones. Zone I concerns on major edge as well friction first flank. II considers forces minor edges flanks. significantly affect and has not been studied great Frozen, non-frozen dry heartwood of Norway spruce Scots pine were cut using different tooth geometries was measured. edge, clearance, band thickness, angle clearance investigated. y-intercept force–width graph used (at this point are assumed zero). contribution studied. results show that frozen wood less elastic spring-back therefore cutting. Dried showed a degree (55−75% force). Changing from 2.87 mm 1.6 resulted 10–15% contributions.

On-Line Estimation of Groove Wear in the Minor Cutting Edge for Finish Machining

The paper investigates the effective detection and esdmation of = m v e wear at the minor cutting edge, which has a mtal influence on surface quality in finish-machining. During bar-turning experiments with different cutting conditions, a miniature 3-D accelerometer, mounted in close vicinity to the tool tip, was used to measure the multivariate vibration signal produced by the turning process....

The cutting edge in surgery

In September 2001, a hospital in Strasbourg, France, probably broke the record for the most expensive standard surgery in history by removing the gall bladder from a 68-year-old woman for the princely sum of more than €1 million. But it was not the exorbitant cost of the operation that made the headlines in the popular and biomedical press. It was the fact that it was the first example of trans...

Cutting-Edge Research in Visualization

I n 1987, the National Science Foundation (NSF) Panel on Graphics, Image Processing, and Workstations published its landmark report, “Visualization in Scientific Computing,” which set out the vision for developing visualization as a scientific field (www.evl.uic. edu/core.php?mod=4&type=3&indi=348). During the 25 years since then, the visualization field’s horizons have broadened significantly,...

The Cutting Edge

“The bigger they are, the harder they fall” is a bit of wisdom that’s been around for a long time. But when it comes to pesticide application, the line should read, “The bigger they are, the closer they fall.” Large droplets are not as likely to drift off-target as smaller droplets. This basic principle lies behind many innovations to reduce drift when spraying herbicides. Nozzle manufacturers ...

Cutting-edge terahertz technology

Terahertz (THz) radiation, which lies in the frequency gap between the infrared and microwaves, typically referred to as the frequencies from 100 GHz to 30 THz, has long been studied in fields such as astronomy and analytical science. However, recent technological innovation in photonics and nanotechnology is now enabling THz research to be applied in many more sectors. Today, THz technology is...
